As a Chargehand Roadworker, you will undertake the maintenance and construction of roads and drains, or undertake specialist tasks associated with the construction and maintenance of roads and drainage systems (which may include driving of vehicles which require specialist driving skills and/or the operation of powered heavy plant).
You will provide first line supervision for a work group undertaking road maintenance, construction and civil engineering activities.
You will have a flexible attitude to work, be health and safety aware and be able to effectively communicate with work colleagues, supervisory staff and client representatives.
With proven experience of working within the construction industry, you will have knowledge in road maintenance, drainage and surfacing works and knowledge of the operation & utilisation of construction plant.
You will have the ability to:
- set up levels for kerb/draining laying
- set out works from first principles
- read and understand PU drawings. Use of CAT to locate buried services
- work to precise levels and requirements in construction work, such as, to lay kerbs and drains to levels over a continuous length e.g. min of 50m and laying, raking & rolling surface materials e.g. HRA & DBM surfacing.
You will have an SVQ Level II or any equivalent construction industry qualification and a CSCS Health and Safety card.
You will have the ability and willingness to participate in a standby rota and to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
A Category B Driving Licence or equivalent entitlement to drive in Great Britain is essential.
A drivers CPC for HGV Licence is preferred but not essential.
